The cost for data recovery depends on how quickly you need it done, and how complicated the data recovery is. As such, we typically quote a cost range depending on the level of service that is needed.
Regardless of the level of service you choose, we must enter the failed media into our assessment queue so we can determine how the drive has failed.
Even if the drive has an audible ‘click’ from it, or sounds like it has a physical failure, that isn’t always the case. There are three levels of service for this. The client must choose one.
Once the assessment is complete, there are two methods that we use to recover your data:
The Catalyst Data Recovery team has access to very specialized hardware and software, and will use this to recover data on your drive. This method will not require Catalyst to open or manipulate your drive in anyway. Overall, this will help us to keep the recovery costs low**. Our success rate with our ’Software Recovery Methods’ is generally between 30 - 50% of all new cases started with Catalyst. Every case is different.
You can typically expect to pay between $150 – $650 for this level of recovery. The final cost quote will be based on several factors.
Once the recovery has been completed, you will be able to view the data we have recovered, and select what you would like to recover. Once done, this will create the final quote for work, which you can then approve, before any invoice is created. You may choose to exit the process at any time, and will not be billed extra if you choose to exit the process. ***
Method 2: In-Lab Recovery
If the hard drive is damaged, and we cannot bypass the failure with method 1, in order to proceed with data recovery Catalyst will need to enter the drive into our data recovery clean room. We will identify the reason the drive has failed, and ask you for permission before we start this service level. An upfront cost of $350 is needed to move your drive into our in-lab services. Regardless of the queue selected, once a drive is moved into in-lab services, every case is treated as an emergency.
We will let you know if we feel the drive is a candidate for in lab recovery depending on its reason for failure. The typical cost for recovery ranges between $950.00 – $3,200.00. This will depend on a wide array of factors, there are too many different factors to list here.

*Note: Your security is important to Catalyst. As such, Catalyst never retains any Credit Card details on file. All transactions are encrypted and sent directly to Visa or MasterCard for authorization via our partners Authorize.net, once complete, our automated process will destroy all credit card details post transaction.
** Catalyst must remove your media from any external enclosures. Depending on the design, irreparable damage may be caused when we do this. Any damaged external enclosures will be destroyed and not returned to you, there is no refund on damaged enclosures and warranty on the enclosure may be voided if damaged. Catalyst does not void any warranties with our in lab recovery services, so if the drive is still under warranty after our data recovery process is complete, you are still be entitled to a replacement drive free of charge from the manufacturer.
